 Events: SLCC Celebrates Black History Month

 Salt Lake Community College is celebrating Black History this month with a series of events to encourage learning, reflection, and community.  To learn more visit SLCC’s Student Engagement, Experience and Achievement website. The public is welcome to all the events, two of the most popular include the following.

 EVENT: African American Read-In & Black Student Union Annual Poetry Slam

Hosted by SLCC’s Black Student Union and Student Writing and Reading Center, the event showcases Black culture through Black literature. The Poetry Slam welcomes volunteers to read written works and traditional poetry written by black artists. To contribute, interested participants should fill out this form.

When: February 12, 2025, noon - 2:00 p.m. 
Where: SLCC’s Taylorsville Redwood Campus (4600 So. Redwood Rd.), Student Center, Oak Room. Parking: Visitor parking is located in front of the Student Center.

EVENT: Black Businesses Pop-Up Shops

Come shop and support Black entrepreneurs, who will be selling a variety of items ranging from jewelry, clothing to artisan items. There will also be food vendors.

When: February 20, 2025, noon - 4:00 p.m.
Where: SLCC’s Taylorsville Redwood Campus (4600 So. Redwood Rd.), Student Center in the Student Event Center (located across from the Thayne Center). Parking: Visitor parking is located in front of the Student Center.
